That said, your air conditioning system\ngoes through a <em>lot <\/em>this season and\nbeyond, accumulating wear and tear faster than air conditioners in other parts\nof the country. This means it could potentially require more repairs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To avoid the biggest, most sudden, and costliest of these AC\nrepair needs, we implore you to schedule maintenance at least once a year for\nyour air conditioner. Be sure to call for repairs as soon as you hear this noise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grinding<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The air handler of your air conditioner is the component\nresponsible for circulating air throughout your home while the system is in\noperation. The air handler motor is put under a lot of strain while the system\nis working, so to help it cope, the system has a number of oiled bearings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eventually, however, these bearings wear down and the\nfriction on the air handler motor increases. This can cause the motor to emit a\ngrinding noise while the system is operating. If you hear this sound, it\u2019s\ndefinitely time to call for repairs. The bearings will need to be replaced\nbefore your cooling system overheats and burns out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Short-Cycling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Short-cycling is when the air conditioning system turns\nitself on and off every few minutes, rather than completing a full cooling\ncycle. It\u2019s typically the result of an electrical problem in the system.\nShort-cycling prevents the AC system from providing adequate cooling, and also\naccelerates wear and tear in the system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the short-cycling goes on for too long, your air\nconditioning system will be more likely to break down in other was, shortening\nits lifespan.
