It\u2019s a lot easier, not to mention cheaper, to address problems when they\u2019re just starting out than waiting until months later when you can\u2019t ignore them because your AC broke down. Maintenance helps you avoid large repair needs and keeps your cooling costs down, but of course, there is still a chance your system will need repair. How can you tell? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your AC Has Low Cooling Output<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a pretty apparent sign that something is amiss with your\nair conditioner. After all, it\u2019s supposed to keep your home at an even,\ncomfortable temperature as it runs. Improper cooling power means something is\nwrong, whether it\u2019s something like a gradual refrigerant leak that requires a\nrecharge and patch up, or even just an air filter that needs replacement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It could also mean something more serious though, such as a\nfailed compressor or iced-over evaporator line. If some rooms seem to be getting better\nairflow than others, this typically indicates a problem with the ducts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Debris, mold spores, dust and other particles can accumulate\nin the cool, damp corners of your ductwork, which restricts airflow but also\ncreates a bigger problem\u2014it can become a health hazard for you and your family.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">You Have Thermostat Troubles<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes, your problem with your air conditioner is not a\nproblem with the actual air conditioner itself, but rather the thermostat.\nSigns of a thermostat in malfunction may include an air conditioner that won\u2019t\nturn on, or won\u2019t shut off, a temperature reading that does not correspond to\nthe temp of the house, or one or more rooms that are cooler or warmer than the\nrest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first thing to do if you discover this issue is to check\nto make sure the settings are correct on your thermostat. It may have been that\na family member unknowingly switched from \u201cauto\u201d mode to \u201cfan\u201d mode, for\nexample.
