Still though,\neven if you believe in ghosts, it\u2019s important that you\u2019re aware that most\ntimes, those strange and unfamiliar noises you hear in your home are <em>not <\/em>caused by poltergeists. Rather, they\nare typically created by something going amiss with your plumbing system, or in\nmany cases your HVAC system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sure, there are <em>some <\/em>noises\nyour heater is going to make this winter that you\u2019ll be familiar with. For\ninstance, you may hear the ductwork crackling a bit when your furnace first\ncomes on, as the temperature fluctuates. You will also of course hear the <em>whoosh <\/em>of air through the vents. Below,\nhowever, we\u2019ve uncovered some heater noises you <em>don\u2019t <\/em>want to hear. Don\u2019t let them haunt you! That\nis, when you hear a loud boom coming from the furnace. If this happens each\ntime your furnace starts up, it <em>might <\/em>be\ndue to the air ducts or the sheet metal siding of the furnace expanding and\ncontracting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But another definite possibility is that your burners are dirty. What happens, is a layer of grime settles on your burners, and when the furnace cycles on it has to burn through that grime first. This can cause gas to become trapped, and a small explosion occurs as it finally busts through. The thing is,\nthe more this happens, the more likely it is that you\u2019ll have cracked heat\nexchangers. This can lead to dangerous carbon monoxide exposure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Squealing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While we would like to make a joke here about a banshee\nbeing stuck inside your furnace, there\u2019s a much more likely culprit\u2014a lack of\nlubrication or a blower fan belt that has worn down. These seem like minor\nproblems, right? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are, to an extent. But the problem is, too many homeowners let these problems go on for <em>too<br>long, <\/em>and they have a sort of domino effect on the rest of the system, potentially leading to premature system breakdown. If your furnace is nearing the end of its lifespan, consider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheeksac.com\/blog\/heating-service\/if-heater-wont-make-it-through-winter-what-replace-with\/\">what to replace it with<\/a> to avoid future headaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Low Rumbling <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>DO you hear a low rumble? It may be at its loudest when you\nare right next to your furnace. It\u2019s hard for us to say exactly what\u2019s causing\nthe problem without inspecting your furnace. But we can tell you it\u2019s likely\nthat the pilot flame is too low. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go ahead and check the flame to ensure it&#8217;s blue, and not yellow or orange. If it <em>is <\/em>one of the latter colors, the rumbling noise can be attributed to a harmful carbon monoxide leak as not enough gas is making it to the flame.
