It is winter after all,\nand temperatures are only getting chillier. But before you rush out for the\nbiggest furnace you can afford, remember, bigger doesn\u2019t always mean better. In\nfact, in the case of this heating system, bigger might not mean better at <em>all. <\/em>It may be worse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact of the matter is, the size of your furnace can have\na huge impact on its functionality. It\u2019s important that your furnace is\ncarefully sized for <em>your <\/em>specific\nhome. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And remember, proper sizing is just half the battle!\nInstalling a furnace isn\u2019t a small job\u2014it requires specific experience, skills,\nand even licensing (especially in the case of a gas-powered furnace that has to\nbe hooked up to a main gas line). The system will have to work much harder and run longer than it should\nhave to in order to keep up with your heating demands. But, an\noversized furnace is susceptible to a number of problems. The biggest of these\nproblems is <em>short-cycling. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Short cycling describes the process where a furnace turns on\nand off rapidly. This can happen with an air conditioner as well, and signifies\nthat the system is too large, or there is an electrical fault. The former is\nmore of a possibility if the short-cycling starts right after installation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What happens with an oversized furnace is that it heats up\nthe home too fast, causing the system to shut off before it even completes a\nfull heating cycle. Once the home cools down a little, the furnace restarts but\nonly runs a short time again.
